I love how everyday things suddenly become exciting when you’re in a foreign country. Today, after Darija class, we wandered over to a tiny mall nearby to grab dinner at the food court upstairs. Domino’s Pizza, the French bakery chain “Paul,” and a place selling tajine, shwarma, and falafel. While we were eating, the roof above our heads slid open, revealing not a glass skylight but the open sky. We ate our food court dinner with blue sky, fresh air, and an occasional flock of birds over our heads.
